Winter at Basecamp Oulanka Is Full of Outdoor Adventures
Snowy forests, flowing rapids and the stillness of winter evenings invite you outdoors. At Basecamp Oulanka, nature is right on your doorstep. Spend your day snowshoeing among the trees, learning to cross-country ski or practising wilderness skills. With our guides, you will discover new ways to enjoy winter and notice details in the landscape you might otherwise pass by.
Explore the winter scenery of Myllykoski on snowshoes, or spend a day on the Little Bear Trail with a stop for lunch by an open fire. Our introductory skiing course helps you find your feet on skis in the snowy surroundings of Lake Juumajärvi. During our wilderness skills activity, you will practise fire lighting and build a quinzee snow shelter while learning how to stay warm and safe outdoors in winter.
After dark, the forest takes on a different atmosphere. On an evening snowshoe tour, we walk by the light of our head torches, pause to listen to the silence and enjoy a hot drink. On a clear evening, the stars draw our gaze skywards, and with a little luck, the Northern Lights may appear too.
Whether you want to learn a new skill, share an adventure with your family or spend a full day exploring winter trails, our programme offers something for different interests. Browse the activity descriptions, schedules and age limits, and choose your own way to experience winter in Oulanka.
