Basecamp Oulanka is located in the heart of nature within Oulanka National Park. You can reach us by car, plane, train or bus, but the final part of the journey always requires some planning when using public transport.

Arriving by car

Driving is the easiest and most flexible way to reach Basecamp. Drive to Kuusamo or Ruka and follow the signs to Oulanka National Park. The final kilometres are along Myllykoskentie road.

The last section of the road is unpaved. During spring thaw conditions, the road may be in poor condition and occasionally challenging. Parking is available at Basecamp.

By plane

The nearest airport is Kuusamo Airport. There are direct flights from Helsinki, with a flight time of approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.

By train

The nearest railway station is Kemijärvi, but in practice Rovaniemi is often the more convenient option due to better connections.

By bus

There are bus connections to Kuusamo and Ruka. There is no direct connection to Basecamp *), so you will need a transfer for the final leg.

*) During the summer season, the Karhunkierros Express operates between Ruka and Basecamp Oulanka.
